Why We Do Our Own Echocardiograms, Xrays, Lab Work,
Bone Density Scans, Testing, Carotid Duplex Ultrasound In
Consumerism is starting to gain traction in the healthcare field. More specialists and a one stop shop type of Health facilities have different types of machines for different needs.
Here is an example of a 2D Echocardiogram, completed In our office, borrowing the
principles from the retail sector. What this means is offering patients the same convenience and ‘customer’ care they would expect at a retail store.
One stop shop Health Facilities
The idea is to move away from a system where everything revolves around the physician rather than the patient. Especially given the patient-centered rhetoric. Let’s take a fairly common example; a lump in the breast.
A patient will start with an appointment with the family doctor. Then it’s appointment after appointment with various specialists, all based at different locations. The patient’s entire experience feels like a “hurry up and wait” scenario. For test results, for follow-up appointments and finally a comprehensive treatment plan. This is anything but consumer-centric.
We offer our patients a one-stop service. Echocardiograms, x-rays,bone-density scans, carotid duplex ultrasounds and lab work are all done, in-house, on the premises.
Getting The Specialists On The Same Page
Convenience means different things to different people. For some, it might mean the ease and accessibility to get the necessary tests done. Someone else might prefer all the paperwork being handled for them, as in records not getting lost, x-rays and test results all in one place.
This also means peace of mind knowing that all the specialists are on the same page. That they all have immediate access to the history of a patient and there’s no breakdown in communication because everyone is in the same building.
The cause of many unhappy patients
What shouldn’t be happening is a patient going to different providers, each one billing separately. For us the patient’s focus should be on getting better, not worrying about submitting bills to their health insurance, or waiting months on end for an appointment. Our aim is to offer patients a one-stop shop.
It makes sense that we as the professionals organize and coordinate the care of the patient. Currently, the responsibility is on them, which is very unfair given they are already in a vulnerable situation, dealing with what could be a serious illness or condition.
Our team is more focused on the services we offer. Which in turn is easier to understand our patients’ needs and tailor a service that meets them.
